Parent Programs

Each year the Fair Lawn High School Counseling Department holds evening programs specifically designed to help parents in various stages of their child's high school career. In the fall we have our Senior Parent College Application Night, HESAA Financial Aid Night and FAFSA Workshop. In the winter we have our Junior Parent Night, and BCC Early College Program Interest Session. In the spring we have an additional HESAA Financial Aid Night and our Senior Awards Program.

Below is a brief explanation of each program and the materials presented in case you are not able to join us. If you have any questions please feel welcome to reach out to our counselors any time!

Senior Parent College Application Night

Thursday, September 19, 2024 @ 6:00 - 8:30pm

This informative session will guide parents through the college application process, including how students submit their applications. Our counselors will cover key topics such as important deadlines, using the Common App and Naviance, and submitting standardized test scores. We will also dedicate time to address any questions you may have, ensuring you're fully equipped to support your student during this important process.

Fall Financial Aid Night (virtual presentation)

A representative of the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) presents an overview of the financial aid process and answers questions about grants, scholarships and loans offered by the state of New Jersey.

Winter FAFSA Night (virtual presentation)

Thursday, December 12, 2024 @ 6:30 - 8:30pm

A representative of the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) presents an overview of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process and answers questions about who, how, when and why you should fill it out. Students and parents are encouraged to attend together.

Junior Parent Night

Thursday, January 9, 2025 @ 6:30 - 8:30pm

Junior Parent Night is an informative program designed for parents of 11th grade students to explore post-graduation options. The evening will begin with an introduction to the college search process from our Supervisor of School Counseling, and representatives of various post-secondary options.
Parents then meet in small groups with their child’s school counselor to discuss next steps in more detail and ask questions.
The evening will conclude with a small college fair featuring various colleges, universities, community college, trade school and military personnel.

BCC Early College Information Session

Tuesday, February 4, 2025 @ 6:30 - 7:30pm

The Fair Lawn Supervisor of School Counseling and the Director of Early College Programs at Bergen Community College provide information to interested 10th-grade students and their parents about the Early College Program. This program allows students to attend Bergen Community College and Fair Lawn High School simultaneously during their junior and senior years, enabling them to earn an associate's degree by the time they graduate from high school.

Spring Financial Aid Night
