What is FLHS Child Care?

The FLHS Child Care Program provides a unique experience for both the preschoolers and the high school seniors. Under the guidance of Ms. Bell, the seniors will learn about child growth and development from prenatal through age 5. They will also explore preschool curriculum, children's literature, working with special needs and ELL children, and how to create an inviting and safe learning environment for all students. Ms. Bell will guide them with through the lesson planning process as they plan and prepare engaging, hands-on lessons for the preschoolers each day.

What Will My Child Learn?

The preschoolers in the Child Care class will work in small learning groups with the seniors. The seniors will use a "Theme of the Week" and "Letter of the Week" to guide their instruction.

There is a strong focus on:

  • letter and number recognition

  • letter/sound relationships

  • color and shape exploration

  • beginning of math concepts

  • fine motor skills such as coloring, crafts, and using scissors properly

  • hands-on STEM activities

  • days of the week, months of the year, weather, seasons

When Does The Class Meet?

The class for the preschoolers begins in mid-October (specific start date TBD based on the FLHS school calendar).

Class meets 4 days each week. No Class on Wednesdays.

One morning session from 9:00 am - 11:45 am

What Are The Requirements?

  • Students must be age 4 by October 1, 2024.

  • Students must be fully potty trained and able to use the bathroom independently.

  • Family must be residents of Fair Lawn.

  • Tuition for the 2024-2025 year is $450 to be paid by check or money order. (subject to change yearly)
