Business Dynamics Personal Financial Literacy*: Personal Finance is a course designed to inform students how individual choices directly influence occupational goals and future earnings potential. Real world topics covered will include income, money management, spending and credit, as well as saving and investing. Students will design personal and household budgets; simulate use of checking and saving accounts; demonstrate knowledge of finance, debt, and credit management; and evaluate and understand insurance and taxes. This course will provide a foundational understanding for making informed personal financial decisions. Students will gain first-hand knowledge about how their personal finances impact their ability to become entrepreneurs. Topics including franchising, forms of business ownership, and emerging careers will be infused throughout the curriculum.

Personal Financial Literacy*: Personal Financial Literacy directly aligns with the New Jersey Department of Education’s revision of the Student Learning Standards. Financial literacy includes the application of knowledge, skills, and ethical values when making consumer and financial decisions that impact the self, the family, and the local and global communities. Seven specific strands are addressed and taught throughout the curriculum. These strands include: income and careers; money management; credit and debt management; planning, saving, and investing; becoming a critical consumer; civic financial responsibility; insuring and protecting. Student’s individual learning styles and abilities are addressed through differentiated instruction as well as through different modalities of learning including the infusion of technology into daily lessons.

Word & Information Processing/PFL*: This course is designed to meet the state required 2.5 credits of personal finance and to provide students with opportunities to develop skills for solving real world problems. It focuses on areas of study that address problems and applications in personal finance including financial planning, personal investing, budgeting, tax planning, real estate financing, credit management, insurance protection, and retirement and estate planning. Additionally students will develop skills using Google Suite which includes Drive, Slides, Sheets, Classroom and other advanced Google features. As Google Applications become more prevalent in the workplace the goal of this course is to familiarize students with the skills needed to create, manipulate and share documents in the workplace. This is full-year course available to 9, 10, 11 and 12th graders

Financial Accounting 1 and 1H: This is the first course of a possible two-year curriculum, designed to provide students with a foundation in the accounting cycle and the ability to prepare and analyze financial statements. The course examines the accounting procedures for both service and merchandising business. Students will be provided a body of knowledge necessary for success in the future study of accounting, finance, or business administration, as well as entry into the many business fields where "accounting" is the major language spoken. Farleigh Dickinson University Middle Level College credits are available for those achieving a "C" or better at the Honors level.

Financial Accounting 2 and 2H: This is the second course of a possible two-year curriculum, designed to provide students with an opportunity to utilize their knowledge of financial statements to make business and investment decisions. The course focuses on the accounting procedures of corporations. Topics include asset depreciation, inventory calculations, stock and bond transactions, and financial ratio analysis. The second half of the year enables the student to use their understanding of financial statement analysis to develop stock portfolios in a real-time stock simulation challenge. Farleigh Dickinson University Middle Level College credits are available for those achieving a "C" or better at the Honors level.

Marketing & Entrepreneurship: This course is a project-oriented, hands-on class designed to provide students with a foundation in marketing and advertising through the introduction of economic and marketing concepts. Students will examine risks and challenges marketers face to establish a competitive edge. Topics include target marketing, product planning, market research, pricing, distributing, and the promotion of goods and services. Students will be designing marketing plans using these concepts as well as current non-traditional marketing techniques. This course will focus on sports and entertainment marketing, hospitality management, and retail management.

Business of Sports & Entertainment: This full year course introduces the student to the principles, practices, and careers of sports and entertainment professionals. Students will investigate the scope of these industries, which are growing into major business enterprises in the United States and throughout the world. Students will be introduced to amateur and professional sports as well as entertainment venues and special events with a focus on how each industry is run to create demand and turn a profit on products they provide. Through interactive learning activities, project based learning activities, case studies, and professional profiles, the student will engage in exploring and analyzing the dynamics of sport and entertainment industry. Farleigh Dickinson University Middle Level College credits are available for those achieving a "C" or better.

Web Design: This course is intended for the student interested in learning how to create web pages for the World Wide Web. Instruction on how to program using the HTML language is provided. Hypertext Markup Language in the development and composition of Web pages. Students author pages that meet XHTML specifications outlined by the WWW Consortium. Topics include: tables, forms, links, lists, objects of various types including graphics and sound, style sheets, and issues surrounding cross-platform viewing. The student will develop and upload a completed Web site. Farleigh Dickinson University Middle Level College credits are available for those achieving a "C" or better.

Management: This capstone course is designed for a student who wishes to pursue a career in business after high school. Students who take Management have most likely taken several business courses prior to taking this course. The students in this course will most likely study Finance, Management, Accounting, Marketing or Entrepreneurship in college. The course is broken down into 4 areas which include Management and Leadership styles, Business Ownership, Personal Development and Career Exploration. Throughout the course, business concepts will be taught with an emphasis on enduring understandings, essential questions, real-world application, technology, and cross-curricular interaction.

Business & Career Connections: Business & Career Connections is a full year course where students earn 5 credits and fulfills the graduation requirement of a full year of a career education course. This course introduces students to the process of career development and career awareness. Students develop self and career awareness, explore careers, and set academic and career-related goals through a series of activities using the Student Learning Standards. Students explore and assess their interests and abilities and use information from state and national labor market data to make future career plans. This course is designed to give students a competitive edge in the job market. Specific units incorporate and integrate the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. Student’s individual learning styles and abilities are addressed through differentiated instruction as well as through different modalities of learning including infusing technology into daily lessons. The curriculum will be modified and adapted depending on the student population in this course.

CTE Pathway: Global Supply Chain

Supply Chain 1H ~ New Fall of 2024! Why was there a shortage of toilet paper during the pandemic?  What factors did Nike consider before allowing consumers to customize their own, unique, Air Force 1s?  How has Apple become one of the most valuable companies in the world?  Supply Chain Management provides us with the answers to all those questions and more.  A supply chain is everything that happens to a product or service from initial concept to the point of sale.

Global Supply Chain 1 is the first of a three course Supply Chain Management CTE program at Fair Lawn High School. In Course 1 students will be introduced to the basic concepts of Supply Chain Management by completing Project Based Learning (PBL) projects. Each covers one of the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model building blocks; Plan, Source, Make, Deliver. Students will learn about the exciting opportunities in both college and career for students in this career pathway. This semester-long course must be paired with Global Supply Chain 2 and is credited towards the 21st Century Life Careers/Career Technical Education credit requirement for graduation.

Supply Chain 2H ~ New Spring of 2025! A supply chain is everything that happens to a product or service from initial concept to the point of sale.  In Global Supply Chain 2, students will be introduced to intermediate concepts of supply chain management.  In this second course, students will utilize the Project Based Learning model to reinforce their understanding of the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model with projects aligned to the building blocks: Plan, Source, Make, and Deliver.  Supply Chain 2 focuses on Material Planning, Insourcing versus Outsourcing, Lean Manufacturing and Distribution. Career opportunities are also explored. This semester-long course must be paired with Global Supply Chain 1 and is credited towards the 21st Century Life Careers/Career Technical Education credit requirement for graduation.  Students should take Supply Chain 3, the final course in the Supply Chain Management Pathway, to be eligible for the dual-credit opportunity with Rutgers Business School.

Supply Chain 3H ~ Coming Fall of 2025! This full year course is the third and final course in the Supply Chain Management pathway at Fair Lawn High School. A supply chain is everything that happens to a product or service from initial concept to the point of sale. In Global Supply Chain 3, students will utilize the Project Based Learning model to reinforce their understanding of the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model with projects aligned to the building blocks: Plan, Source, Make, and Deliver.  Students will also be introduced to advanced concepts of supply chain management; Production and Capacity Planning, Ethical Sourcing and Sustainability, Service Supply Chain, and Logistics Service Provider Agreement.

Aligned with Rutgers Business School’s Supply Chain Management program, the curriculum is Project Based and prepares students for this career college pathway. Upon successful completion of the course (and the other two within the pathway), students are eligible for three FREE general elective credits through Rutgers Business School and are ready to continue their career pathway in Supply Chain Management. This course is credited towards the 21st Century Life Careers/Career Technical Education credit requirement for graduation.
